The conclusion of the Pier Solar saga

Remember when YouTube had tags?

No, not the #hashtags. Good, old-fashioned tags that channels could manually put on their videos to help aid YouTube search results.

You know, back when YouTube actually returned relevant search results for their search results feature? And not an unbalanced mixture of somewhat-relevant results, irrelevant popular videos, and general recommendations “For You”?

But I digress… let’s revisit one of the less prominent recurrences of the podcast: Pier Solar.

“Pier Solar” was the indie RPG that came out for — surprise — Sega Genesis! And a modern game on a retro console is right up the alley for our hosts. In addition to everyone’s copies of Pier Solar being delayed for comedic effect (what was the catch phrase… “45 days”?), it was Johnny’s copy that stood out. Why? He kept it sealed.

Long story short, after many pleas from Pete and the users, in addition to a full-blown petition with [internet] signatures, Johnny caved. He begrudgingly cracked open his sealed copy and posted it on YouTube for us all to see:

What I found most amusing from this video at the time, though, was something that no longer exists: the original video tags.

What was with the tags? Well, if you look at some of the old comments, there are some mentions:

Love the tags, BTW.

cronolink9

Your tags make me LOL in RL

Adowel123

Hahahaha love the tags man.

PressStartToContinueYT

lmao those tags, good to have you back!

Torzelan

the tags are hilarious lol!

SplatterTrigger

It looks like I was not the only one to notice the tags on this video! Those are some classic names from the old YouTube Gaming Community days, too. I’m in some good company. Sort of.

But the obvious question: “what were the video tags?”

To answer this precisely, we need to take another trip to the Wayback Machine.

You can see it right there at the bottom of the old description box:

PIER SOLAR unboxing and Pete Dorr is an asshole

Johnny Millenium

I found this to be so amusing at the time. So unnecessarily bitter. And such a creative use of tags, using them to spell out such a spite-filled sentence. Wonderful.
